Even if you are not interested in beauty, you have probably heard the term hyaluronic acid somewhere.
Injecting hyaluronic acid is said to be an effective treatment for improving nasolabial folds, and is used by many beauty clinics and is supported by a large number of people.
On the other hand, some people may not have heard of the term growth factor.
In fact, this injection is also an effective treatment for improving nasolabial folds.
Hyaluronic acid is a highly viscous, jelly-like filler that is used to plump up wrinkles, whereas growth factors are a treatment that works by increasing your own collagen, giving the skin firmness and radiance to improve wrinkles.
Even though they are the same injection treatments, each has completely different characteristics, so many people considering cosmetic medical procedure may be unsure which one to choose.
Many patients visit our clinic wondering, “Which treatment is better, hyaluronic acid or growth factors?” So we would like to explain the difference between them.

The difference between hyaluronic acid and collagen
Hyaluronic acid
It is a type of gel-like mucopolysaccharide found in the human body that helps maintain collagen tissue.
Hyaluronic acid also has excellent moisture retention properties and is an essential ingredient for keeping skin hydrated and smooth.
By the way, 1 gram of hyaluronic acid is said to have a high water retention capacity, being able to hold 6 liters of water.
Collagen
Collagen is a type of protein that actually makes up about 1/15 of the size of the human body.
It is found in the dermis, a part of the skin that is important for maintaining beautiful skin.
Collagen, which accounts for about 70% of the dermis, acts like a mesh and maintains the skin’s firmness and elasticity, making the skin beautiful.
It decreases with age and has a significant impact on the formation of wrinkles and sagging skin.
This can be increased significantly by the growth factor.
Differences after procedure with hyaluronic acid and growth factors
Hyaluronic acid
The idea is to inject a gel-like ingredient into wrinkled or sunken areas to lift and plump up the tissue, improving the wrinkles.
Because it is not a liquid, the hyaluronic acid itself remains at the injection site and exerts its effect.
It has an immediate effect.
Growth Factor
Since the liquid is absorbed by the skin after the injection, you will likely not see any immediate changes after the procedure. However, as collagen is produced from your own cells and allowed to settle, over a period of around six months, your skin will gradually become firmer and more lustrous.
It has a regenerative and rejuvenating effect on the skin itself.
After one month, the results are often obvious.
Maintenance costs
Cosmetic treatments are not covered by insurance, so the cost of treatment tends to be higher than normal.
That’s why it’s so important to consider the maintenance costs.
Growth factors at our clinic often require only one procedure, and on average the results last for several years or more.
Of course, over a 10-year period, there will be some progression of aging due to age and the effects of ultraviolet rays, but even after 10 years the effects of procedure are clear compared to doing nothing.
On the other hand, hyaluronic acid does not treat the root cause of wrinkles, so it is naturally absorbed and disappears after injection.
Therefore, to keep your skin in good condition, maintenance (additional injections) are required every six months to two years.
In addition, it may be necessary to inject more than one bottle of hyaluronic acid at a time, such as two or three.
When considering total costs, growth factor procedure is more cost-effective.
If you want immediate results, get hyaluronic acid
At our clinic, we recommend growth factor for nasolabial folds as a radical skin procedure, but in some cases hyaluronic acid injection may be more appropriate.
The biggest advantage of hyaluronic acid injection is its immediate effect.
After the growth factor is injected, it takes time for the body to produce collagen, so if you want to get the procedure in time for an upcoming event such as a wedding or reunion, we recommend hyaluronic acid treatment.
Growth Factor is recommended for treating wrinkles
To briefly summarize what we have covered so far, hyaluronic acid treatment is effective immediately, so the effects are easy to see just before and after injection, but the effects gradually decrease after injection and maintenance is required, so costs are incurred each time.
In contrast, growth factors do not have an immediate effect, but they only require one procedure, and although the price per procedure is more expensive than hyaluronic acid injection, the total cost is more economical.
Rather than using hyaluronic acid, which just plumps up the skin and makes it look younger temporarily, why not try treating the root cause of wrinkles with growth factors that rejuvenate the skin itself?
